you’ve stuffed in the desk drawer.
There to right. The one
that might never get organized.
A few suffer an endless insomnia now,
longing only for little gifts of relief
vibrating from the world: low mumbles
over a cigarette, the scoot of a chair
on wooded floors, the warming hum
of a laptop spinning up,
that same woman’s rhythmic clicking
of freshly polished red nails as she daydreams
on something new to write about.
